Kanpur man arrested for allegedly defrauding Thai wife

A Thai woman has filed a police complaint in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, accusing her Indian husband, Mohammad Irfan, of fraud and physical assault. The woman, identified as Upsorn, alleges that she met Irfan through Instagram approximately four years ago and married him about a year ago after he visited Thailand several times.

According to the complaint, the victim provided Irfan with approximately 55 to 60 lakh Indian rupees (roughly 2 million baht) under the pretext of establishing a business. She claims that after Irfan returned to India, he ceased all communication. Upon traveling to India to locate him, she discovered he had been married for 14 years and had a family in India.

The woman further alleges that Irfan pressured her to convert to Islam as a condition for living with him in India and physically assaulted her when she demanded the return of her money. Kanpur police have arrested Irfan and are currently verifying the financial transactions and marriage documents provided as evidence.
