Kanpur woman reports ₹50 lakh in gold missing from SBI locker

A woman in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has reported the disappearance of gold jewellery and valuables worth approximately ₹50 lakh from a State Bank of India (SBI) locker. The valuables were reportedly deposited in 2003 at the Swaroop Nagar branch, which was formerly part of the State Bank of Travancore before merging with SBI in 2017.

The woman, who had moved to Lucknow following her husband's death, recently returned to access the locker after noticing that locker charges were still being deducted from her account. Upon gaining access, she discovered the locker was empty.

Local police have registered an FIR against the branch manager and other bank employees. Preliminary investigations revealed bank records indicating that the locker had been accessed twice in 2020. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage, locker access registers, and other documentation to determine how the items were removed.
