Kansas and LIU football set to face off in season opener

Long Island University (LIU) football is scheduled to face the University of Kansas in a road matchup on Friday, Sept. 4, at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The game marks the first meeting between the two programs in history.

For the Jayhawks, the season opener brings scrutiny to the offense, specifically regarding whether quarterback Isaiah Marshall and offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki can improve the team's scoring output. Marshall has been named the starting quarterback following fall camp.

LIU enters the matchup following a season in 2025 where they finished 6-6, including a victory over Eastern Michigan University. The Sharks' recent performance was highlighted by quarterback Luca Stanzani, who earned NEC Prime Performer honors after a strong second-half showing in their previous game against the University of North Dakota.
