Kansas child dies after electrical shock from clothes dryer

A four-year-old child died in Savonburg, Kansas, following an electrical shock from a 220-volt clothes dryer. The incident occurred on August 6 while the child was playing inside a residence.

According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, the child’s parents discovered the child was unconscious and rushed them to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. The child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities stated that no foul play is suspected and described the event as a “tragic accident.” Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances to determine how the appliance delivered the fatal shock. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notes that families should use tamper-resistant receptacles and outlet covers to protect children from electrical hazards.
