Kansas City approves $185M financing for CPKC Stadium expansion

The Kansas City City Council has approved a financing framework of up to $185 million for the expansion of CPKC Stadium and the development of the surrounding Berkley Riverfront area. The project is part of a larger $1.4 billion redevelopment plan for the district.

The stadium expansion aims to increase capacity from 11,500 to 18,000 seats. The broader Berkley Riverfront project will include new infrastructure improvements, parking, and retail space. The $185 million approved figure covers debt financing and includes protections to mitigate risks if the development faces cash flow shortages.

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are members of the Kansas City Current ownership group. Patrick Mahomes became the first active NFL player to co-own an NWSL team in January 2023.
