Kansas City Chiefs place Josh Simmons on injured reserve

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed starting left tackle Josh Simmons on injured reserve due to a bulging disk in his lower back. The move ensures the 23-year-old will miss at least four more games, making him eligible to return as early as Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Simmons, a 2025 first-round draft pick, has struggled with availability since entering the league. While he initially attempted to manage the injury through rehabilitation to avoid surgery, head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder noted that his progress has “plateaued” in the final stages of recovery. The team also clarified that Simmons’ recent absence from practice was used to consult with his family before agreeing to the injured reserve designation.

In his absence, undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson will continue to start at left tackle to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The injury news comes as the Chiefs prepare for a Sunday night matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
