Kansas City Chiefs sign wide receiver Justin Watson to practice squad

Kansas City Chiefs Justin Watson NFL practice squad roster moves

The Kansas City Chiefs are signing former wide receiver Justin Watson to their practice squad, head coach Andy Reid announced following the team's bye week. Watson, 30, previously played for the Chiefs from 2022 through 2024 before a brief stint with the Houston Texans in 2025.

Reid cited Watson's familiarity with the offense, speed, and size as primary reasons for his return. During his previous tenure in Kansas City, Watson served as a deep-threat option for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, recording 64 receptions over three seasons.

To accommodate Watson, the Chiefs will place wide receiver Tyquan Thornton on the Reserve/Injured list due to a dislocated ankle. Additionally, linebacker Cam Jones will be signed to the active roster.
