Kansas City Royals unveil new downtown ballpark designs
The Kansas City Royals have unveiled new renderings for a proposed downtown ballpark, designed in collaboration with the global design firm Populous. The plans feature a three-dimensional, oval-shaped ‘Crown Vision’ scoreboard and central fountains intended to celebrate the city’s history.
The stadium is designed to be carved out of an existing limestone bluff, with a main entrance located in the north leading to an outfield plaza. The facility will include approximately 34,000 seats and 3,000 standing-room-only spots, with 65 percent of seating covered by a canopy. The outfield will house two 360-degree concourses, an entertainment building in right field, and the Royals headquarters in left field.
To improve walkability compared to the current Kauffman Stadium, the new site is intended to be within walking distance of the Kansas City streetcar. The development includes 9,000 parking spots within a ten-minute walk, the retention of two existing parking garages, and the construction of a new garage in right field. The team envisions the venue as a year-round destination for concerts and festivals.
