Turkey pension updates: Bank promotions and SGK regulatory changes
Turkish retirees and workers are facing several developments regarding the Social Security Institution (SGK) and banking benefits. Banks are currently competing with various promotion campaigns for September 2026. ING offers up to 32,000 TL in total advantages, while QNB provides up to 20,000 TL in unconditional cash promotions for high-income earners. Other institutions like İş Bankası, Akbank, DenizBank, and Yapı Kredi are also offering significant promotional amounts, often requiring a three-year commitment to transfer pension salaries.
Regarding policy, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek has indicated that a study is underway concerning the minimum pension amount, which will be presented to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for a final decision. Additionally, the SGK is transitioning away from a system that has been in place for approximately 18 years, introducing new rules that will affect insurance notifications, premium processes, and retirement calculations for both employees and employers. Some individuals may also be eligible for multiple pension payments depending on their specific insurance history and family status.
