Kansas health officials declare norovirus outbreak over at Bentwood Elementary
The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment has declared a norovirus outbreak over at Bentwood Elementary School in Overland Park, Kansas. The outbreak resulted in 97 total cases, including 95 students and staff members and two family members.
While only two cases were confirmed via laboratory testing, the remaining cases were linked through similar symptoms occurring in the same setting. School officials first noted an increase in absences on October 8, with symptoms peaking around October 12.
No hospitalizations were reported, and no new cases have been identified since October 13. The Olathe School District and local health officials coordinated to increase disinfection and monitor absences to contain the spread of the highly contagious virus.
