Kansas man arrested for alleged threats against Donald Trump

Jaden J. Read, a 24-year-old resident of Clearwater, Kansas, has been taken into federal custody following allegations of making death threats against former President Donald Trump on Facebook.

The investigation began on October 15 after a tip was submitted to Crime Stoppers regarding comments made on social media posts related to Trump’s upcoming visit to Wichita. According to prosecutors, Read allegedly posted comments asking for a shooter and stating, “Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself.”

Authorities claim Read further threatened the former president by stating he had ammunition and had mapped out nearby rooftops where Trump was scheduled to speak. Law enforcement officials apprehended Read two days before the scheduled presidential visit. U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser stated that while the First Amendment allows for robust disagreement, political violence and threats will not be tolerated.
