Kansas school superintendent arrested on ten charges

Jeff Michael Jones, the superintendent of Western Plains Unified School District 106 in west-central Kansas, has been arrested and faces ten charges. The charges include misuse of public funds, witness intimidation, official misconduct, interference with a law enforcement officer, and contributing to child misconduct by encouraging the commission of a felony.

Jones, who has served as superintendent since July 2015, was arrested in Ness County and subsequently placed on administrative leave by the USD 106 Board of Education. Other charges include making false information, computer unlawful acts, and theft of property or services.

Ness County Attorney Jacob Gayer and Sheriff Brandon Mitchell stated that the incident poses no danger to students, staff, or the community. Authorities indicated that formal charges in the 24th Judicial District may be amended in the future.
