Kansas soccer defeats Utah State 2-0 in season opener

The No. 15 ranked Kansas women’s soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 2-0 shutout victory against Utah State at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.

Kansas took an early lead in the 17th minute when Jillian Gregorski scored following a rebound from a shot by Jocelyn Herrema. The Jayhawks secured their second goal in the 84th minute with a strike from Jordan Rowan, assisted by Marit McLaughlin and Jocelyn Herrema.

Utah State, which was preseason-ranked to win the Pac-12, struggled to find offensive momentum in the heat and humidity. The Aggies recorded six total shots compared to Kansas’ 14, with goalkeeper Allee Grashoff making two saves. Kansas head coach Nate Lie noted the match was challenging due to the weather and required multiple hydration breaks.
