Jayden Maiava named AP national college football player of the week

Jayden Maiava, the quarterback for the University of Southern California, has been named the Associated Press national player of the week for Week 0 of the college football season.

Maiava led the Trojans to a 42-26 victory over San Jose State, completing 25 of 29 passes for 286 yards and two passing touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown. During the game, freshman Trent Mosley recorded 118 receiving yards on seven catches.

Beau Pribula of the University of Virginia was named the runner-up after rushing for a career-best 110 yards and completing 9 of 11 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-8 win against North Carolina State.
