Sporting Lagos defeats Enyimba FC to extend club's winless streak

Sporting Lagos secured a 3-2 comeback victory against Enyimba FC in Matchday 5 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Despite Enyimba taking the lead through Stanley Dimgba and a Tobi Iyanda penalty, Sporting Lagos responded with goals from Abdullahi Abdulraqeeb, Haruna Hadi, and Daniel Aboh.

The defeat marks Enyimba’s fourth consecutive loss, leaving the nine-time champions at the bottom of the league table without a single point this season. This performance mirrors a difficult start the club experienced in 1999, marking their worst opening run in 27 years. The club is currently facing both competitive struggles and off-field leadership issues.

Enyimba Chairman Nwankwo Kanu issued a public appeal to supporters, urging them to remain loyal during the crisis. He stated, “Hard times are not forever, they come and go. We understand the weight of the disappointing losses and we are determined to make things right.”

In other NPFL action, Barau FC moved to the top of the table following a 2-0 win over Abia Warriors. Kwara United also secured a 2-1 victory against Nasarawa United, while Rangers International defeated Ranchers Bees 1-0.
