Gazprom Arena disputes Kanye West concert contract in Russia

The future of Kanye West’s scheduled concerts in St. Petersburg, Russia, is uncertain following conflicting statements between the venue and the event organizers. The Gazprom Arena announced that the two shows, planned for October 10 and 11, will not take place because no rental agreement has been signed with the Moscow-based Say Agency.

The stadium noted it had received complaints regarding West’s appearance and emphasized that it is not the organizer of the event. Conversely, Say Agency expressed surprise at the announcement, claiming they were informed through the media and that the concerts have not been officially canceled. The agency stated that the deadline to sign the rental contract does not expire until later this week.

If the performances proceed, West would be the first major Western artist to perform in Russia since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The situation has sparked speculation regarding potential political pressure from Moscow, as some Russian politicians have publicly opposed the rapper’s appearance due to his past controversial and antisemitic remarks.
