Kanye West ordered to pay over $300,000 in Malibu mansion legal dispute

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has ordered musician Kanye West, known as Ye, to pay an additional $181,433 in legal fees and costs related to a lawsuit involving his Malibu mansion. This ruling follows a March jury verdict that found West liable for $140,000 in damages to construction manager Tony Saxon.

Saxon filed the lawsuit alleging he suffered serious back and neck injuries while working on the renovation of the beachfront property, which West purchased for $57 million in 2021. Saxon testified that West intended to transform the Tadao Ando-designed home into an off-the-grid bunker, ordering the removal of plumbing, electrical systems, and fixtures. Saxon also claimed he was misclassified as an independent contractor and that West failed to provide workers' compensation coverage.

While the total award now exceeds $320,000, it remains significantly lower than the $1.7 million in compensatory damages Saxon originally sought. West’s legal team argued that Saxon should receive no attorney fees, while Saxon’s counsel noted that the final award was still below the value they believed they provided.
