Kanye West announces two concerts in Saint Petersburg, Russia

American rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, has announced two concerts scheduled for October 10 and 11 at the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg. The performances mark a significant event as they would be among the largest shows by a Western artist in Russia since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, a period during which many international performers have avoided the country.

Ticket sales have seen massive demand, with reports indicating that over 100,000 tickets have already been sold. The announcement has triggered political debate within Russia. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed rumors regarding a potential meeting between West and President Vladimir Putin, stating, “This is not our area. This is not ‘Mosconcert’,” noting that such matters fall under the presidential administration rather than cultural agencies.

While some Russian officials and fans have welcomed the news, others have expressed criticism. Lawmaker Nikolay Novichkov has called for the shows to be canceled unless the artist offers “moral support” for Russia’s military operations, citing West’s past controversial statements and use of Nazi imagery. West has previously faced bans and cancellations in several European countries due to antisemitic remarks, though he issued a statement in early 2026 denying being a Nazi or an antisemite.
