Kanyinsola Ajayi honored in Lagos following successful athletics season
Nigerian sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi was honored by the Lagos State Athletics Association during a homecoming event in Lagos following his successful 2026 athletics season. Ajayi, who holds the Nigerian men’s 100m national record with a time of 9.84 seconds, has achieved significant international success, including a bronze medal at the 2026 World Athletics Championships, medals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and a podium finish at the Diamond League Final.
During the event, Ajayi credited his rise to the international stage to the support of his coaches, family, and community. He specifically thanked his first coach, Olapade Lawal, for his early guidance. The 22-year-old Auburn University student urged aspiring young athletes to maintain discipline, stay rooted in their communities, and prepare themselves for future opportunities.
Solomon Alao, Chairman of the Lagos State Athletics Association, noted that Ajayi’s achievements have established him as a role model for athletes within the state.
