Kaohsiung budget for fiscal year 116 decreases to NT$199.1 billion

The Kaohsiung City Government has announced its total budget for the 116 fiscal year, totaling NT$199.1 billion. This represents a decrease of NT$4.9 billion compared to the 2026 fiscal year.

City Mayor Chen Chi-mai attributed the reduction primarily to amendments to the Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures, which are expected to reduce planned subsidies by approximately NT$12.34 billion. While the amendments have increased the city's own financial resources, the overall budget scale has shrunk.

Mayor Chen has called for bipartisan support for the Executive Yuan's version of the Act to ensure regional balanced development and to prevent the loss of key revenue sources. Despite the budget constraints, the city plans to focus on semiconductor industry clusters, metro network construction, flood prevention, and social welfare measures for an aging population.
