Kaohsiung City honors outstanding athletes at National Sports Day ceremony
To celebrate National Sports Day, the Kaohsiung City Government held an awards ceremony to honor outstanding athletes, coaches, referees, and sports contributors. Mayor Chen Chi-mai presented awards to 29 outstanding athletes, 23 coaches, 7 referees, and several organizations for their contributions to the local sports scene.
Key award recipients included Li Han, named ‘Best Male Athlete of the Year’ for his achievements in swimming, including breaking records at the National Middle School Athletic Games and winning silver at the 2025 Asian Youth Games. Qiu Pin-chien was named ‘Best Female Athlete of the Year’ following her victory at the 2025 Korea Masters and reaching a career-high world ranking of 11th.
Other notable honorees included 12-year-old badminton player Liu Xin-yu, recognized as an outstanding athlete after winning the U15 women's singles title, and para-athletes Xiao Min-jie and Huang Zhen-yi for their perseverance and competitive success. The ceremony also included a lifetime achievement award for Chen Shang-wen for his long-term dedication to football in Taiwan.
