Kaohsiung City increases subsidies for motorcycle driving training classes

The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau has announced an additional subsidy of NT$2,400 for Kaohsiung residents who enroll in professional motorcycle driving training classes. This local incentive is provided in addition to the existing NT$1,300 subsidy from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

The initiative aims to improve defensive driving skills and emergency response capabilities among commuters, as motorcycles are a primary mode of transport in the city. Data from the Ministry of Transportation indicates that professional training can reduce the risk of traffic violations by approximately 59% and reduce accident risks by about 36% compared to untrained riders.

Common causes of motorcycle accidents identified by authorities include failing to yield the right of way, improper turning, failing to maintain safe distances, and ignoring traffic signals or markings. The city encourages residents to apply through licensed training centers while quotas remain available.
