Kaohsiung driver arrested for drunk driving after hitting stone bollard

A 22-year-old man surnamed Li was apprehended by police in Kaohsiung after running a red light and crashing his vehicle into a stone bollard. During a patrol on September 27, officers from the Qianzhen Police Station observed the violation and approached the vehicle, only to find the driver asleep at the wheel.

Upon being questioned, the driver appeared disoriented and initially denied consuming alcohol. However, officers noted a strong odor of alcohol, and Li eventually admitted to drinking with friends in Pingtung the previous night. A breathalyzer test confirmed his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit.

Li faces charges of public danger under the Criminal Code and multiple violations of the Road Traffic Management and Punishment Act, including drunk driving and running a red light. Total potential fines for these traffic violations amount to NT$125,400. The case has been referred to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office for investigation.
