Kaohsiung flood control inspected by President Lai Ching-te

President Lai Ching-te and local officials inspected flood control projects in northern Kaohsiung following heavy rainfall. The inspection included visits to the Tuku drainage basin improvement project in Gangshan and the Beigou drainage governance project in Yong'an to assess the effectiveness of detention basins and pumping systems.

Legislator Lai Rui-long is advocating for central government support to accelerate the reinforcement of detention, drainage, and pumping systems to increase regional flood resilience. Additionally, he is seeking cash assistance and interest-free loans for the local fishing industry to mitigate the economic impact of the heavy rains on fishermen.

In a separate discussion regarding the Dianbao Creek area, political figure Ko Chih-en invited expert Li Hung-yuan to review long-standing flooding issues. Li emphasized that flood control requires more than just budget increases; it necessitates integrated management across different administrative levels to address bottlenecks such as varying river widths and overlapping management responsibilities. Both discussions highlight the need for scientific analysis and cross-departmental cooperation to address extreme weather challenges in the region.
