Kaohsiung hosts indigenous sports and music talent selections

The Kaohsiung City Indigenous Affairs Commission is hosting a series of cultural and athletic events to promote indigenous talent and prepare for the 116th National Indigenous Games.

Nearly 1,500 athletes are participating in selection trials held at the Lingya Sports Park and Nanzi Archery Field. These trials aim to form the Kaohsiung representative team, focusing on traditional events such as tug-of-war and sawing, as well as basketball and softball. To encourage participation, the commission has increased prize money for both individual and team competitions. Winners will enter intensive training in November to prepare for the national games in Taichung.

In addition to sports, the second TAKAO Voice Singing Competition was held at the Lingya Sports Park. Out of 42 contestants from across Taiwan, 12 performers advanced to the finals. The event included a local market with 40 stalls featuring indigenous food, agricultural products, and cultural crafts, aimed at supporting the local indigenous music industry and economy.
