Kaohsiung house fire kills mobility-impaired woman

A fatal fire broke out in a three-story house in the Qianzhen District of Kaohsiung on the morning of the 18th. Emergency services responded to the scene on Qiaoya Zhong Street around 9:05 AM, deploying 12 vehicles and 34 personnel to combat the blaze.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the body of a 63-year-old woman, surnamed Chang, in a third-floor room. Authorities noted that the woman had limited mobility, which likely prevented her from escaping the smoke and flames. Her 29-year-old son, who lived with her, had left for work earlier that morning and was not present during the incident.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kaohsiung City Fire Bureau's fire investigation division.
