Kaohsiung officials undergo bicycle road test led by students

Kaohsiung City's Education Bureau Director Wu Li-sen and Transportation Bureau Director Chang Shu-chuan participated in a bicycle road test at Guanghua Junior High School on September 18. Acting as examinees, the two officials rode YouBike bicycles through six safety challenges, including safe starts, pedestrian lane walking, and maintaining stability during straight rides and turns.

Students served as examiners, evaluating the officials on their ability to follow traffic rules and observe road conditions. Upon successful completion, students presented the directors with special edition bicycle licenses. The event, themed ‘Guanghua Rides, Safety Fun Together!’, aimed to transition traffic safety education from classroom theory to real-world application.

Director Wu emphasized that true safety lies in the ability to execute rules in actual road situations, while Director Chang noted that riding safely requires defensive driving habits and environmental awareness. The school has integrated bicycle safety into its curriculum through written tests, road tests, and practical riding experiences to ensure students can translate knowledge into safe actions.
