Kaohsiung parents detained for suspected fatal child abuse

Prosecutors in Kaohsiung have requested detention for a man and a woman suspected of abusing their two-year-old daughter, who died after allegedly falling from a building. While the parents claimed the child fell on stairs at home, medical examinations revealed multiple bruises consistent with abuse.

Investigators also discovered signs of suspected abuse on the couple's one-year-old son, who remains hospitalized. The family's seven-year-old daughter has been placed in emergency care by the Social Affairs Bureau. Officials noted the family had only recently moved to Kaohsiung, which explains the lack of prior local reports. In response, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai announced plans to increase the frequency of visits for high-risk families from every three months to once a month.
