Kaohsiung political landscape shows Ko Chih-en leading in online engagement

Recent data regarding the Kaohsiung mayoral race and local governance shows a divide between social media engagement and official approval ratings. Analysis from the TPOC Taiwan Issue Research Center indicates that Kuomintang legislator Ko Chih-en has significantly outperformed Democratic Progressive Party legislator Lai Jui-lung in online engagement. Between March and August, Ko's social media volume was 22% higher than Lai's, driven by her role as a critic of the ruling party and her use of emotional storytelling to connect with grassroots voters.

Despite the competitive digital landscape for the upcoming election, current Mayor Chen Chi-mai maintains a high approval rating. A poll by the Asia-Pacific Elite Exchange Association shows Chen's satisfaction rate at 83.5%, with cross-party support including 56% among Kuomintang supporters. Key drivers for this approval include the establishment of TSMC facilities in Kaohsiung, light rail completion, and urban tourism projects. Economic indicators under Chen's tenure also show growth in disposable income and tourism-related revenues.
