Kaohsiung pursues industrial transformation amid heavy rain warnings

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai highlighted the city’s industrial transformation efforts during the 2026 Kaohsiung City and Industry Development Forum. The city is focusing on semiconductor corridors, advanced manufacturing, AI, and digital technology. Key achievements mentioned include the expedited land remediation to facilitate TSMC’s 2nm plant construction and the development of recycled water infrastructure to support high-tech industries.

Separately, the Kaohsiung City Government has announced a suspension of work and classes for August 23 due to forecasted heavy rainfall. According to the Central Weather Administration, low-pressure systems and southwest monsoon winds are expected to cause significant precipitation and potential disaster risks in the region. The city has opened 303 temporary parking locations and waived fees for public roadside and municipal parking during the suspension period.
