Kaohsiung pushes urban forest management, organic farm hub and tech‑friendly housing development

Kaohsiung City Council held a public hearing on urban forest management, chaired by councilor Huang Bo-lin. Officials highlighted the need for scientific, resource‑recycling‑based management of the city’s roughly 160,000 street trees and 170,000 park trees, with an annual maintenance budget exceeding NT$100 million. After Typhoon Shantou produced about 2,900 tonnes of tree waste, the city began processing the material into solid recovered fuel and wood chips.

The council’s Agriculture Committee inspected the 38‑hectare Yanshao Organic Farm, which was relocated from the former Nakazaki organic zone four years ago. Soil improvement has shown positive results, and council members called for stable sales platforms and marketing channels to boost the visibility of organic produce, as well as school field trips to promote food‑agri education.

Separately, the residential project "遠雄一靚" (Far Glory One Elegant) is under development in Kaohsiung’s High‑Tech district. Covering about 2,432 ping, the low‑density community offers 21–36 ping two‑ and three‑bedroom units, 29 % building coverage and 20‑metre setbacks. Marketed toward families linked to the semiconductor industry, the project emphasizes proximity to a full K‑12 education corridor that includes a bilingual elementary school, aiming to attract tech‑focused homebuyers.
