Kaolack association uses literature for cancer awareness
In Kaolack, the association KALAMU organized a ‘Café Livre’ to mark Pink October, focusing on breast and cervical cancer awareness. The event utilized literature and dialogue to address these health issues, operating under the theme ‘La confidence noie la douleur’ (Confidence drowns the pain), inspired by the work of Senegalese writer Mariama Bâ.
Samba Cor Faye, president of KALAMU, explained that the initiative aims to use reading and discussion to break the silence surrounding taboo subjects in society. By creating a space for sharing and literary exchange, the association hopes to help individuals cope with the difficulties of cancer through the power of communication.
