Kaolack residents protest land subdivision management
Residents of the Sing Sing neighborhood in Kaolack recently held a peaceful march to protest the management of a new land subdivision project. Led by Élisabeth Bassen, president of the Collectif des victimes de Sing Sing, demonstrators expressed frustration over a perceived lack of transparency and inclusion in the process.
The protesters have criticized local municipal authorities for failing to respond to numerous requests for dialogue. Tensions escalated following a relocation compensation offer of 500,000 FCFA, which residents described as insulting and insufficient to cover the value of their property or the resulting material and moral damages. The collective is also calling for state intervention, alleging that the withholding of administrative documents is preventing them from defending their legal rights.
