Kaolack sports and culture groups demand infrastructure and funding

The Committee for the Defense of Sports and Culture Interests of Kaolack (CGDISCK) has formally called upon the Kaolack municipality to fulfill its infrastructure and funding commitments. During a recent press conference, CGDISCK Secretary General Ibra Sène expressed concern over the lack of progress regarding promised projects under Mayor Serigne Mboup’s administration.

Key unfulfilled promises include the construction of local infrastructure, a FIFA-standard multifunctional stadium, an Olympic swimming pool, and the rehabilitation of the Manga Diouf arena. Sène described the city as being in an ‘infrastructure desert,’ noting that since the administration took office four years ago, the only significant work recorded was the fencing of the Deggo de Ndorong field.

Additionally, the committee denounced a two-year freeze on subsidies for sports and cultural associations. The CGDISCK challenged the municipality's practice of categorizing associations into two groups to justify withholding funds, arguing that local authorities have a duty to promote leisure and culture. While the group is currently prioritizing dialogue, they have not ruled out further actions to voice their demands.
