Kaolack to host Senegal's 2029 independence day parade

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced that the city of Kaolack will host the national independence day military and civil parade on April 4, 2029. This decision, made during a Council of Ministers meeting on October 13, 2026, is part of a broader strategy to promote territorial equity and decentralize public policy.

To prepare for the event, the President has ordered the creation of a ‘Special Independence Programme’ to be coordinated by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. This initiative will focus on large-scale public infrastructure projects and measures to revitalize the local economy in the peanut basin region. The Prime Minister is required to provide quarterly progress reports to the Council of Ministers regarding these developments.

Additionally, in response to recent flooding, President Faye has called for a technical audit of the country’s sanitation systems and the potential creation of a national sanitation fund. He has also directed the finalization of a national civil protection and disaster risk management strategy by the end of November 2026.
