Kapaklı, Turkey: 14-year-old apprentice allegedly assaulted by workshop owner
A 14-year-old Vocational Training Center (MESEM) student, identified as F. K., was allegedly physically assaulted by an auto repair shop owner in the Kapaklı district of Tekirdağ, Turkey. The incident reportedly occurred after the student failed to attend school on September 24 due to a uniform issue.
Security camera footage from the workshop in the Kapaklı Industrial Site allegedly captured the owner, Abdulkadir K., striking the minor with punches, kicks, and slaps. Following the incident, the student's mother, Kadriye Enez Koyuncu, obtained a medical report documenting the assault and filed formal complaints with the police, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
The family's legal complaint also raises concerns regarding labor conditions. It is alleged that the minor was forced to work 12-hour shifts, from 08:00 to 20:00, including Saturdays, with only one day of rest per week. The family has requested an investigation into whether these hours comply with MESEM regulations, as well as an audit of occupational health and safety standards at the facility.
