Kapil Sibal critiques political horse trading and BRICS summit outcomes

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has made several significant political observations regarding both domestic governance and international diplomacy. During an event in Kochi, Sibal ironically referred to himself as a ‘Dimagi Naxal,’ adopting a term previously used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to describe individuals perceived as undermining societal integrity. Sibal used the occasion to critique ‘horse trading’ in politics, describing the organized inducement of lawmakers as a ‘constitutional crisis’ that creates artificial majorities and disconnects representatives from the electorate.

Addressing the recent BRICS summit in New Delhi, Sibal characterized the grouping as a ‘motley’ collection of nations. He noted that while China benefited the most from the summit, India successfully navigated internal differences to secure a joint declaration without it becoming an explicitly anti-Western bloc. Sibal highlighted that the declaration avoided calls for de-dollarization or an alternative currency as a notable achievement for the Indian government. He also observed that the group's stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict and the two-state theory reflected shifting global geopolitical dynamics.
