Kapıkule and Kapitan Andreevo border crossings face heavy congestion

Turkish expatriates living in Europe are experiencing significant delays and kilometer-long vehicle queues at the Kapıkule Border Crossing in Edirne and the Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing in Bulgaria as they return from summer holidays.

To address these seasonal bottlenecks, Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer met with Nikolay Shushkov, head of the Bulgarian National Customs Agency, to discuss capacity expansion projects. Ongoing renovation and construction work at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing aims to increase throughput, specifically targeting passenger vehicle traffic during peak seasons and improving the flow of heavy goods vehicles (TIR) to support commercial transport between Turkey and Europe.
