Kapıkule Border Crossing sees heavy traffic from returning expatriates

Turkish citizens living in various European countries have begun their return journeys following summer vacations in Turkey. This seasonal movement has caused significant congestion at border crossings, particularly at the Kapıkule Border Crossing in Edirne, which connects Turkey to Bulgaria.

Between June 22 and August 3, approximately 2,508,000 expatriates used five different border crossings in Edirne, with 1,331,000 of those travelers passing through Kapıkule. Despite the high volume of traffic, additional measures have been implemented to manage the flow, reducing average waiting times in the customs area to approximately 29 minutes.

Travelers reported mixed emotions regarding their departure, expressing sadness at leaving their homeland while noting the quality of their time spent with family. Many travelers are heading to destinations including Germany, France, Austria, and the Netherlands.
