Kapor Ahmed Bhuiyan proposes new Brahmanbaria division
Kapor Ahmed Bhuiyan, a member of the BNP National Executive Committee, has proposed the formation of a new administrative division comprising the districts of Kishoreganj, Habiganj, and Brahmanbaria.
According to the proposal, the new division would include 31 upazilas and serve a combined population of approximately 8.9 million people. Bhuiyan suggested that Brahmanbaria be designated as the divisional headquarters due to its strategic economic and geographical importance, citing assets such as the Ashuganj river port, power plants, the Akhaura land port, and key transport links connecting Dhaka and Chittagong.
Bhuiyan argued that the new division would facilitate easier access to government services, healthcare, and higher education. He also noted that integrating the resources of the three districts, including Kishoreganj’s haors and fisheries, Habiganj’s gas and tea industries, and Brahmanbaria’s industrial zones, could create a powerful regional economic hub.
