Kappo Komeo faces suspension after mass Salmonella outbreak in Tokyo

A mass food poisoning incident occurred at the Azabu-juban Noryo Matsuri in Minato Ward, Tokyo, involving 'Kappo Komeo' and its 'Chilled Crab Ramen'. Salmonella bacteria were identified as the cause, affecting 123 confirmed patients, including a one-year-old child. Health authorities reported that Salmonella was detected in both the patients and the employees.

Minato Ward has issued a seven-day business suspension order for Kappo Komeo, effective from September 3. Investigations revealed that the establishment had failed to maintain mandatory daily hygiene records, such as refrigerator temperatures and tool cleaning, despite the owner, Komeo, reportedly being aware of the requirement.

Following the incident, additional hygiene concerns were raised regarding Komeo's other restaurant, 'Kanie'. A video by YouTuber Biwako-kun highlighted poor sanitary conditions at 'Kanie', specifically showing spoons submerged in spice containers. Komeo has apologized via YouTube, appearing with a shaved head, and expressed a desire to learn from the experience and eventually return to cooking, though critics argue the focus should remain on victim compensation and systemic hygiene reform.
