Kara, Togo: Road safety and resilient construction initiatives

In the Kara region of northern Togo, authorities are launching several initiatives to improve public safety and infrastructure resilience. The Direction des Transports routiers et ferroviaires (DTRF) has announced a road safety awareness campaign covering seven prefectures in the Kara region. The campaign aims to address dangerous behaviors such as speeding, improper use of turn signals, distracted driving, and the failure to wear helmets or seatbelts, which contribute to accidents near markets and schools.

Simultaneously, the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), supported by Plan International, is conducting training for artisans from the Central, Kara, and Savanes regions. This program focuses on disaster prevention through resilient construction techniques and the selection of appropriate materials to protect homes from violent winds and other climate-related risks. The initiative aims to empower professionals to implement safer building practices and educate their communities on disaster preparedness.
