Karabakh Fires Complicated by Landmines Amid Heatwave, Azerbaijan Beaches Forecast Hot Weather

In the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, the number of forest fires has risen sharply during the hot summer season. Resident Elgiz Məhərrəmov of Saybali village warned that careless disposal of cigarette butts and other waste, combined with people’s negligence, fuels the fires. He added that extinguishing the blazes is especially dangerous because many areas are contaminated with landmines, posing serious risk to firefighters and locals.

Meanwhile, the national meteorological service issued a heat forecast for the Absheron Peninsula. Temperatures are expected to reach 29‑33 °C during the day and 24‑26 °C at night, with mild north‑west winds. Sea‑water temperatures will be 25‑27 °C along the southern and northern beaches, and the weather is predicted to stay largely rain‑free.

Authorities have called on visitors and residents to follow fire‑prevention rules, avoid littering, and respect safety guidelines to protect both people and the environment.
