Karabük Deputy calls for increased central budget investment

CHP Karabük Deputy Cevdet Akay has called for an increase in the central budget allocation for Karabük, arguing that current investments are disproportionate to the taxes the city pays. According to Akay, Karabük paid 11.5 billion lira in taxes last year but received only 1.6 billion lira in investment, representing approximately 13.91% of its tax contribution.

Akay warned that insufficient investment hinders the establishment of new factories and employment-generating projects, which contributes to youth migration. He highlighted several critical infrastructure issues, including delays in the Ovacık State Hospital project due to ground problems and alleged public losses regarding the Eskipazar State Hospital due to faulty soil studies.

Furthermore, Akay criticized the insufficient funding for the Karabük Courthouse project, noting that the allocated budget for 2026 is inadequate to progress the construction. He also emphasized the need for better transportation links, such as the Karabük-Yenice road and improved access to Filyos Port, to reduce freight costs for local industry.
