Bağcılar Municipality's Digital City Twin Platform Recognized as International Good Practice
Bağcılar Municipality, with support from the Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA), developed a Digital City Twin Platform for municipal management. The platform, which incorporates artificial‑intelligence‑driven analysis, three‑dimensional city modeling, data‑based decision support and a disaster‑resilient approach, was selected as an international “Good Practice” by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) within the Connective Cities network.
The platform was presented at an online Insight Session titled “Digital Twins for Risk‑Informed Municipal Development.” Around 50 experts and representatives from more than 30 countries attended, highlighting the solution’s relevance for risk‑informed urban planning. Following the session, Connective Cities editors documented the platform in detail and published it on their website and in the July 2026 Connective Cities International Bulletin, making the model available to local governments worldwide.
