Karaburun neighbourhood protests trash buildup after waste containers removed

Residents of Mordoğan Mahallesi in the Karaburun district of İzmir, Turkey, have staged protests after the municipal authorities removed waste containers from 86th Street. The removal has left the roadside littered with household waste, plastic and construction rubble, creating foul odors, swarms of flies and concerns that wild boars attracted to the trash could endanger children. Locals have appealed to the Karaburun municipality, stressing that the situation poses health risks and inconveniences users of the nearby road and beach. Municipal officials replied that the containers were taken down because the street lacks sufficient maneuvering space for garbage trucks, preventing collection vehicles from accessing the area.
