Karachi: 2 killed and 94 injured by celebratory gunfire

Celebratory gunfire during Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day celebrations in Karachi resulted in at least two deaths and approximately 94 injuries. The casualties, which included men, women, and children, were distributed across various neighborhoods including Lyari, Saddar, Korangi, Malir, and North Nazimabad.

Rescue authorities reported that the injured were transported to several major medical facilities, including Civil Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Among the deceased were an infant and a woman whose death was linked to accidental firing.

Despite official bans and repeated warnings, the practice of aerial firing remains a recurring danger during major festivities in the city. Authorities have highlighted concerns regarding the widespread availability of both licensed and unlicensed firearms in Karachi.
