Karachi authorities launch anti-encroachment drives and urban upgrades
The Karachi administration has initiated anti-encroachment operations and urban development projects to improve city infrastructure and traffic flow.
On Main Korangi Road, authorities led by Assistant Commissioner Javeria Ashraf removed tanker parking areas, roadside stalls, and pushcarts. The operation, directed by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, aimed to reduce traffic congestion near Defence Mall. Officials have been instructed to monitor the area continuously to prevent the return of these encroachments.
Simultaneously, the Sindh government has ordered the transformation of the historic Burns Road into a modern, organized food street. Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah directed authorities to accelerate infrastructure improvements, road rehabilitation, and beautification works. The plan includes coordinated actions against encroachments along the corridor to balance modern civic standards with the area’s cultural and commercial heritage.
