Karachi police arrest suspects in viral DHA assault case

Police in Karachi have arrested several suspects, including Malik Ibrahim, following a viral video showing the assault of a young man, Ali Jafri, in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 8. The incident, which occurred on August 29, involved the victim being struck with a baseball bat and forcibly taken in a vehicle.

Jafri alleged that the attackers kidnapped him, assaulted him, and used his account to make unauthorized purchases. He further claimed the suspects threatened his family and subjected him to extreme physical humiliation. While the suspects' families suggested the incident stemmed from a financial dispute, Jafri has categorically denied any prior relationship or financial dealings with the accused, stating he only met them during the abduction.

Legal proceedings are underway. One suspect, Murtaza Alvi, was granted interim bail by an additional sessions judge until September 9, provided he appears at every hearing. The case has been registered at the Sahil police station, with charges including kidnapping, harassment, and death threats.
