Karachi police inquiry links SSP relatives to Defence assault footage
An inquiry into an assault in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6 has identified the relatives of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi Fida Hussain Janwari as the individuals appearing in CCTV footage of the incident. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Asad Raza confirmed that the women and men seen in the footage include the SSP’s sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law.
The completed inquiry report states that police officers were deployed to the scene without orders from SSP Janwari. Instead, a police constable, identified as Timor, reportedly sent the officers and exceeded his authority by breaking down a door. The investigation found that the initial First Information Report (FIR) contained incorrect sections, including a robbery charge that has since been removed, and concluded the matter was a dispute between women.
While the inquiry held the Darakhshan Station House Officer (SHO) and the investigation officer responsible, the affected family has expressed fear regarding alleged threats and pressure to settle. The Sindh High Court has directed police to provide protection to the applicants involved in the case.
